‚ÄčYou are an important part of the American experiment in liberty and freedom. Without you, freedom dies and tyranny sets in. Local governments around the nation are steadily eroding freedoms by creating regulations and ordinances that tell you how you may live on your own property.

And then they send you a big bill (property tax) to live on your own property!

You must be active in your community if you expect to stop government control over every aspect of your life.

I am a candidate for Lamar County GA Commissioner because I have a passion for continuing the high quality of life here and to be your voice against government control over your property.

And while we are talking "your property", this includes property taxes. I have long written and spoken out against property taxes, which make you a tenant of the government. As soon as you can't pay your property taxes, your property is sold on the courthouse steps.

This is just plain un-American. Unfortunately, this cannot be resolved solely on the local level but I continue to fight this battle with our politicians in state government.

Limited government, limited taxes, and property owners rights are my campaign promises. I will use my 29 years of executive experience to move Lamar County forward in job production, lean government, and high quality of life.

Neighborhood Watch Groups - What's Your Opinion?

Barnesville, GA (March 26, 2014) Ms. Suzanne Cooper of the Lamar County Sheriff's Office made a presentation on Neighborhood Watch, to the  Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members at their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday March 25.

The primary stated reason to create a Neighborhood Watch is to reduce the potential for burglaries. You don't want to come home and find that you've had visitors while you were out - and those visitors helped themselves to your belongings. Even if you have insurance, insurance won't remove the uneasy feeling you get every time you go home after you've been burglarized. Your home is never quite the same after a break-in.

A neighborhood Watch program apparently has some carrying costs. There are costs for signs and door stickers. And the program recommends a structure where meetings are held and a "Captain" is chosen. Vigilantes need not apply however. You need to call the Sheriff's Office or Barnesville PD if you observe a crime taking place.

What are your opinions on forming Neighborhood Watch programs here in District 2? Please contact me with your opinion. I'd like to hear your thoughts. Or - you can call the Sheriff's Office directly at 770-358-5087 and speak with Ms. Cooper. She will answer all your questions and get you started!

Oh by the way, if you are interested in the CERT group in Lamar, you can call Ms. Becky Martin at the EMA office: 770-358-5166 for more information.

2 firefighters killed in the line of duty

2 Boston firefighters were killed in a nine alarm fire yesterday. Please keep their families and our local firefighters/rescue team members in your prayers. This should serve as a reminder that these brave men and women risk their lives everyday to save ours. If you can, thank a Sheriff's Deputy, Firefighter, Barnesville PD, and EMS member today!
